Treatment
Each scar merits an individualised treatment. Following are some of the procedures which are commonly recommended for
the treatment of such blemishes:
Scar Revision:
Unwanted scars are modified by reducing the size, colour, depth and the texture of skin over it. Most important method of camouflaging these scars is by reorienting them so that they fall in the natural creases and folds of our body. These natural creases are what we call as "Relaxed Skin Tension Lines" (RSTL). Thus these scars become less prominent.
Excision:
Moles, round or oval marks are generally excised by an elliptical incision around them. They are replaced with a single line which fades over a period of time. A special care is taken to see that these lines also fall along the natural folds and creases.
Tissue Expansion:
For some of the scars which are too large in size, you may be best treated by expanding your surrounding normal skin. This is done by use of tissue expanders. The details of which can be best had by consulting
your doctor.
Dermabrasion
Non Surgical Methods:
Scar gels, Silicon gel Sheet, Chemical Peels, Injections are various other modalities which can improve the appearances of your scars.
You can arrange for a consultation with Dr.Sumita Shankar to assess your scar and discuss with her in person about the best possible treatment for you.
