Who is a good candidate for liposuction?
The best candidates for liposuction are people at their normal weight who have isolated areas of fat. Firm, elastic skin allows for a better outcome.

Is there any age limit?
The patient’s age is not a factor. However, older patients have less skin elasticity and may not achieve the same results as younger patients

Are there different types of Liposuction?
Besides Traditional Liposuction, other types are power assisted liposuction using vibrations and, Vaser using ultrasonic energy are becoming very popular

Can liposuction be used as a weight loss method?
No, liposuction is used to get rid of isolated areas of fat which are diet and/or exercise resistant. Weight loss is achieved as the fat removed does have mass.

When can I get back to my normal routine?
Each patient differs with recovery times. Also, the recovery time will vary depending on how much liposuction was performed. Most patients are able to return to work 2-7 days after surgery depending on the areas treated.

When can I start exercising?
You are recommended to walk within the first couple of days - this helps with the swelling, pain etc. Depending on the areas treated, you will be able to resume exercise 2-4 weeks after the procedure.

Will the fat return to the area that was treated?
Liposuction is based on the fact that we are born with fixed number of fat cells in our body. Hence unlike diet and exercise liposuction is a permanent method of fat removal. But if after liposuction surgery one does not eat healthy and exercise regularly, the fat cells that remain in the treated area can increase in size.

Can I be operated upon at different areas at the same time?
Yes. Dr Sumita will discuss what procedures may be performed at the same time while still being safe. Combination surgeries can reduce the need for multiple surgeries thus reducing the overall cost

What is the risk involved?
Seromas, infectoin, skin discouluration like bruises which are temporary, can occur. There may be rippling on your skin which can be smoothened with massages

Will I be wearing any special garments after the surgery?
Yes. When you wake up after the procedure, there will be a garment on the treated areas. This compressive garment decreases the swelling.
