What is in plastic surgery?

Plastic Surgery is a speciality involving various surgical and non-surgical techniques to cosmetically enhance the appearance and restoring the function of a persons body part. The word Plastic surgery is derived from a Greek word Plastikos meaning to mould.
What is cosmetic surgery?

In certain procedures, where aesthetics are considered more important than functionality, plastic surgery is also referred to as cosmetic surgery. Procedures like liposuction, nose reshaping, tummy tuck, face lift, breast enhancement or reduction, hair transplant, botox injections and fillers are some such examples.
What is reconstructive surgery?

Whenever and wherever there is tissue loss such as skin, muscle, bone etc, reconstructive surgery provides cover for such wounds trying to get back the lost tissues to near normalcy by various means. This entails flap cover, skin, muscle, bone and nerve grafts. Microsurgery is the most advanced form wherein tissues from distant location of the same persons are removed and placed over the defect by anastomosing to the recipient microvessels
What are the other procedures a plastic surgeon can perform?

Plastic surgeon is trained for three years in the specialisation after training for three years in General Surgery. They are trained to manage burns and its squeal, Electric burn injuries, hand injuries, tissue cover for limb injuries, facio-maxillary trauma, cover for post cancer excision defects, craniofacial surgery, congenital birth deformities and Cosmetic Surgery.
Are Plastic Surgery procedures covered by insurance?

Except for trauma, birth deformities and few reconstructive surgery procedures, cosmetic procedures by and large are not coveredin most parts of the world including India.
